Molitor

Art Deco legend, reborn as Paris's ultimate pool club

16th arrondissement
$$$$€4,500/year membership; day passes from €150

Editor’s Take

The summer outdoor pool from June to September is the main event. Get there before 11am on weekends to claim a good sun deck spot. The Tuesday evening aqua fitness class has a cult following.

About

Molitor is not just a pool β€” it's a chapter of Paris itself. Originally opened in 1929 as the city's grandest public swimming facility, the Art Deco masterpiece on Rue Nungesser et Coli fell into ruin, was colonised by graffiti artists, and achieved cult status before a meticulous restoration brought it back as a members' club and boutique hotel. The winter pool, enclosed by stained glass, is one of the most beautiful indoor swimming spaces in Europe. The summer pool, open-air and flanked by tiered sun decks, transforms into Paris's answer to a Riviera beach club from June through September. Beyond the pools, Molitor houses a 1,800sqm fitness and wellness complex: a proper hammam with marble-slab scrubs, a well-equipped gym, and treatment rooms. But the real draw is the social architecture. The poolside cafΓ© hums with a specific Parisian energy β€” fashion people, founders, diplomats, and athletes sharing espressos in robes. The summer deck parties, with DJs and rosΓ©, are genuinely memorable. Membership runs €4,500 per year, which prices out casual visitors but creates a committed community. Day passes exist but are limited and premium-priced. For those who join, Molitor becomes a second living room β€” the kind of place where you bump into the same faces enough times that strangers become friends. It's the rare heritage space that earns its price through atmosphere, not just aesthetics.
