Klay
Five floors of fitness, food, and friends in a 19th-century factory
Editor’s Take
The restaurant is open to non-members — book for dinner to scope the vibe before committing to membership. The Thursday 19:00 boxing class is legendary and fills up 48 hours in advance. At the higher end for Paris. Worth it if you're serious, steep if you're browsing. Priced above average for the area, though the quality generally justifies it.
About
Klay occupies a 19th-century industrial building in the Sentier district, and the conversion is inspired: exposed iron beams, original brickwork, and vast windows flooding five floors with natural light. It functions as gym, pool club, hammam, and restaurant in a single vertical village. The ground-floor restaurant — with a menu that could stand alone in the neighborhood — sets the tone: this is a place designed for lingering, not just lifting. The fitness offer is substantial. A 25-metre pool sits in a light-filled atrium. Group classes run all day — boxing, yoga, Pilates, HIIT — and the energy in the packed evening sessions is electric. The hammam on the lower level provides genuine recovery, with eucalyptus steam and cold rinses. The gym floors are well-equipped without feeling like a warehouse. But Klay's real genius is social architecture. The restaurant and bar create a natural meeting point before and after training. The communal changing areas, the shared pool lanes, the group classes — everything nudges interaction. It's the rare fitness space where people make actual friends, not just nod at regulars. Weekend brunch after a Saturday morning class has become a Sentier institution.
