Sun City
3,000 square metres, three floors, open until 6am — Paris's nocturnal fitness beast
Editor’s Take
The sweet spot is Friday or Saturday night after midnight — the pool and sauna become genuinely peaceful. Weekday mornings are also quiet. Bring your own products; the amenities are minimal. The €21–€23 price is per-session, not per-hour, so take your time.
About
Sun City is a magnificent anomaly. Three thousand square metres spread across three floors of the 3rd arrondissement, housing a pool, sauna, hammam, jacuzzi, and a full gym — and it charges €21 to €23 for entry. In a neighbourhood where a cocktail costs €16, the value proposition borders on absurd. The space won't win any design awards. The lighting is functional. The surfaces are durable rather than beautiful. None of that matters, because Sun City delivers on the only promise that counts: total access to serious facilities at a price that excludes nobody. The late-night hours are the headline. On weekends, Sun City stays open until 6am — a schedule that transforms it from fitness centre to nocturnal institution. The 2am pool is an entirely different experience: quiet, surreal, populated by night workers, insomniacs, clubbers taking a wellness detour, and the kind of Parisians who've always suspected that the best time to swim is when the rest of the city is asleep. The sauna and hammam at 3am have a meditative quality that daytime sessions can't replicate. During conventional hours, Sun City functions as a no-frills community fitness hub. The gym floor is large and well-stocked. The pool accommodates lap swimmers and leisure dippers. The hammam and sauna are genuine — proper temperatures, decent maintenance, and enough space that you're not elbow-to-elbow. The jacuzzi is a welcome recovery station. The crowd is the most democratic in Paris wellness: students, shift workers, tourists, locals, fitness devotees, and first-timers, all sharing the same space at the same price. It's wellness stripped of lifestyle branding, and it's exactly what certain parts of Paris need.
